Vilanova i la Geltrú is a Meditteranean city located equidistant (45km) between Barcelona and Tarragona. It is part of Barcelona Province and is just 20 minutes from El Prat Airport (Barcelona); with a Renfe train station. It is accessible via motorway C-32 (A-16), motorway E-15 (A-7) and by regional motorways C-31 (C-246) – from Vendrell – and C-15 (C-244) – from Vilafranca del Penedès.
With 65,000 residents, Vilanova is the captial of the Garraf region, which also includes the municipalities of Sitges (a 7km distance), Sant Pere de Ribes, Cubelles, Canyelles and Olivella.
The city has historical, artistic and cultural highlights. One of its numerous attractions is the Víctor Balaguer Library-Museum, the Casa Papiol Romantic Museum and the Railroad Museum. It is home to the Superior Polytechnic School (Catalonia Polytechnic University) and has a Technological Center that pertains to the university.
Recreational activities in Vilanova i la Geltrú include extensive and well-cared for beaches complete with all types of services. The sea port is the third largest in Catalonia and is an example of the combination of sports recreation and commercial fishing (it serves as a base for one of the finest fishing fleets in the Mediterranean).
Another principal assets the city has to offer are its cuisine and its continuing urban and economic development, predominantly in service activities with a strong focus on the strong construction sector, without forgetting industry, and to a lesser but still significant degree, primary economic activities.
